Prindamine
Prindamine is a noradrenaline transporter inhibitor with very weak anticholinergic and serotonin (5-HT) uptake inhibiting effects. Prindamine blocks noradrenaline uptake, increasing synaptic availability of noradrenaline in the brain. Prindamine decreases rapid eye movement sleep (REMS) in cats. Prindamine initially increases the proportion of time spent in active wakefulness in cats.

Propranolol (HY-B0573B) reverses the increase in active wakefulness, Prazosin (HY-B0193) exacerbates the reduction in REMS and decreases deep slow-wave sleep, and Yohimbine (HY-N0127) enhances active wakefulness without altering the reduction in REMS[1].

Decreased rapid eye movement sleep from a control mean of 15.8% to 6.6%.
Lengthened rapid eye movement sleep latency from a control mean of 50 min to 291 min.
Did not alter percentages of light slow wave sleep or deep slow wave sleep.
Decreased rapid eye movement sleep at doses of 0.5 mg/kg and 1.0 mg/kg.
Increased active wakefulness to 38.4% when co-administered with Yohimbine 1 mg/kg.
Decreased drowsy wakefulness from 22.6% to 16.1% when co-administered with Yohimbine 1 mg/kg.
Maintained rapid eye movement sleep at 6.5% when co-administered with Yohimbine 1 mg/kg.
Partially antagonized prindamine-induced rapid eye movement sleep reduction, with rapid eye movement sleep at 10.7% when co-administered with Phentolamine 10 mg/kg.
