CD84

CD84 is a self-binding member of the SLAM family, carrying two extracellular Ig-like domains and a cytoplasmic tail with tyrosine-based motifs that recruit SAP and EAT-2 adaptors. Homophilic CD84-CD84 interactions between cells strengthen adhesion and fine-tune activation signals in T, B, and NK cells. The receptor is expressed broadly across hematopoietic cells, with strong surface levels on B cells, monocytes, and platelets, and it has drawn attention in the stem cell field as part of a marker combination used to enrich human hematopoietic stem cells from mobilized peripheral blood. Studies in lupus models associate altered CD84 expression with B cell hyperactivity. Recombinant CD84 is applied in homophilic-binding and adaptor-recruitment assays.
