p-Nitrophenyl phosphorylcholine (4-Nitrophenylphosphorylcholine) is a chromogenic Phospholipase C substrate. Phospholipase C hydrolyzes p-Nitrophenyl phosphorylcholine to release p-nitrophenol, a yellow chromophore. p-Nitrophenyl phosphorylcholine is used to determine the phospholipase C production of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It also applies to studies related to Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.

p-Nitrophenyl phosphorylcholine (10 mM; 1 h) enables the colorimetric assay to detect phospholipase C activity in clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, with urinary tract isolates and nonmucoid cystic fibrosis lung isolates showing significantly higher mean relative activity (3.06 and 1.67, respectively) than other strain groups relative to the PAO1 standard[1].
