Triclosan is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial fatty acid synthesis at the enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (FabI) step. Triclosan inhibits E. coli enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (FabI) and FabI containing a glycine-to-valine substitution at position 93 (FabIG93V) with IC50s of 2 µM and 10 µM, respectively. Triclosan causes apoptotic effect in cultured rat neural stem cells (NSC). Triclosan exacerbates colitis and colitis-associated colorectal tumorigenesis in animal models .

(S)-β-Aminoisobutyric acid hydrochloride is a cytoprotective agent, which is a non-proteinogenic amino acid enantiomer derived from valine metabolism in skeletal muscle mitochondria. The plasma level of (S)-β-Aminoisobutyric acid hydrochloride increases significantly after acute aerobic exercise (and is not affected by the AGXT2 rs37369 genotype), and it is secreted by mouse extensor digitorum longus and soleus muscles in ex vivo contraction assays. (S)-β-Aminoisobutyric acid hydrochloride specifically protects osteocytes from oxidative stress-induced cell death .

Chlorsulfuron is an acetolactate synthase inhibitor and selective systemic herbicide. Chlorsulfuron blocks the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids (valine and isoleucine), thereby inhibiting protein synthesis, cell growth, and cell division. Chlorsulfuron blocks G1 and G2 phase cell cycle progression in plant root tip cells without directly interfering with mitosis or DNA synthesis. Chlorsulfuron completely inhibits germination of non-target terrestrial plants and is highly toxic to aquatic macrophytes. Chlorsulfuron has low toxicity to mammals, birds and bees, and moderate toxicity to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Chlorsulfuron can be used in studies related to herbicides, plant cell cycles and ecotoxicology .
