  3. 2-Methyl-5-acetylphenol

2-Methyl-5-acetylphenol is a hydroxylated methylacetophenone that exists in the aerial parts of Cannabis sativa subsp. sativa. 2-Methyl-5-acetylphenol exhibits strong binding affinity to HIPK2. 2-Methyl-5-acetylphenol cannot reverse MPP+ (1-methyl-4-phenyl-pyridinium ion)-induced neuronal cytotoxicity. 2-Methyl-5-acetylphenol can be used for Parkinson's disease research.

HIPK2

In Vitro

2-Methyl-5-acetylphenol (Compound 9) (12.5-100 μM; treatment for 24 h) fails to reverse MPP+-induced cytotoxicity in SH-SY5Y cells at concentrations ranging from 12.5 to 100 μM; instead, it exacerbates such cytotoxicity[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Cell Cytotoxicity Assay[1]

Cell Line: human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells
Concentration: 12.5, 25, 50, 100 μM
Incubation Time: 24 h
Result: Recorded cell viability of 97.83%, 99.78%, 98.17%, and 96.25% when applied alone at 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μM, respectively.
Detected cell viability of 33.75%, 38.41%, 38.98%, and 39.27% when applied in combination with 1.8 mM MPP⁺ at 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μM, respectively.
Calculated rescue effect of -24.29%, -13.84%, -12.56%, and -11.91% at 12.5, 25, 50, and 100 μM, respectively.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
