(E)-Caffeic acid phenethyl ester blocks the activation of iNOS by inhibiting NF-κB, and suppresses iNOS promoter activity at the NF-κB site. (E)-Caffeic acid phenethyl ester inhibits nitric oxide production in activated macrophages. (E)-Caffeic acid phenethyl ester is applicable to anti-inflammatory research.

(E)-Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (Compound 10) (2-200 μM; 24 h) potently inhibits NO production in LPS (HY-D1056)-activated mouse macrophage-like J774.1 cells, with an IC50 of 5.44 μM, and shows no cytotoxicity at concentrations close to its IC50[1].
(E)-Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (1-100 μM; 24 h) potently inhibits NO production in LPS-activated mouse macrophage-like J774.1 cells, with an IC50 of 7.64 μM[1].
(E)-Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (1-100 μM; 24 h) shows no cytotoxicity toward LPS-treated mouse macrophage-like J774.1 cells at concentrations close to its NO inhibitory IC50 (7.64 μM), but exhibits cytotoxicity at concentrations of 50 μM and 100 μM[1].
