Stilbazium iodide
Stilbazium iodide is an orally effective pyridinium quaternary ammonium repellent. Stilbazium (iodide) exhibits broad-spectrum activity against a variety of human and animal intestinal parasites. Stilbazium iodide eliminates both mature and immature worms, reduces egg counts, reddens feces, and causes mild gastrointestinal irritation. Stilbazium iodide can be used in research related to intestinal parasitic infections including pinworm, whipworm, and strongyloidiasis.

Biological Activity
Stilbazium iodide (administered orally via ad libitum feeding for 18 days) exhibits low EC50 and EC90 values against S. obvelata and A. tetraptera, but high values of the above indices against N. dubius, indicating that it exerts potent activity against pinworms and moderate activity against trichostrongylids when administered to infected mice[1].
Stilbazium iodide (200 mg/kg/day; p.o.; once daily; for 3 consecutive days) exhibits complete efficacy against mature S. obvelata infection in infected mice, but shows no efficacy against mature N. dubius or H. nana infection[1].
Stilbazium iodide (2.5-15.0 mg base/kg; p.o.; single dose) completely eliminates Syphacia obvelata in mice at doses of 10.0 mg base/kg and above, and achieves an elimination rate of over 93% even at a dose as low as 2.5 mg base/kg[2].
Stilbazium iodide administered via feed at 25-150 mg/kg food; ad libitum feeding; for 48 h) achieves a clearance rate of 99.2% to 100% against Syphacia obvelata in naturally infected mice, with complete elimination of the parasites in all mice receiving doses of 100 and 150 mg/kg food[3].
Stilbazium iodide (1.5-3.0 g; administered over 3 days; twice daily or three times daily; p.o.) shows significantly variable efficacy against intestinal helminths: moderate efficacy against whipworms (7/24 cures, 76%-97% egg reduction), promising efficacy against strongyloides (apparent clearance in 5/5 cases), poor efficacy against hookworms (2/12 cures, 20%-58% egg reduction), and weak efficacy against Hymenolepis nana and roundworms[5].
Stilbazium iodide (500 mg/kg) shows no acute toxicity in healthy dogs and cats, and has negligible emetic activity[4].
