4,6-Dibromo indole is a natural product found in the adipose tissue of bottlenose dolphins, algae, and invertebrates including species of the genus Tubastrea, with multiple activities such as nematicidal and antifungal properties. 4,6-Dibromo indole inhibits the motility of Caenorhabditis elegans and induces a multi-stage nematicidal effect. 4,6-Dibromo indole inhibits the growth, biofilm formation, and yeast-hypha transition of Candida, induces ROS accumulation, disrupts hyphal networks, and reduces biofilm biomass. 4,6-Dibromo indole can be used in studies on crop damage related to nematode infestation and Candida infection.

4,6‑dibromoindole exhibits nematicidal and locomotion-inhibiting activities against Caenorhabditis elegans fer‑15 (b26); fem‑1 (hc17) mutants: it significantly inhibits nematode locomotion, reducing head thrashing to 7 times per minute; it shows strong, dose-dependent nematicidal effects against synchronized nematodes and L4-stage larvae; at 20 μg/mL, nearly complete nematode lethality is achieved within only 90 min[1].
4,6-dibromoindole exhibits extremely strong predicted binding affinity (<0.1 μM) for Caenorhabditis elegans GST-5, and forms key interactions with Asn10, Tyr8 and Met112 residues, which suggests that it may have the potential to inhibit this oxidative stress-responsive enzyme[1].
4,6-dibromoindole potently inhibits the growth of azole-resistant Candida albicans DAY185 with an MIC of 25 µg/mL; it dose-dependently inhibits biofilm formation and hyphal morphogenesis[3].
