Peritonitis

Peritonitis is an inflammation of the peritoneum, the abdominal lining and associated organs, typically resulting from gastrointestinal perforation or infection. It presents with severe abdominal pain, tenderness, fever, ascites, nausea, vomiting, and reduced urine output, and may progress to life-threatening complications such as shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Streptococcus, a Gram-positive anaerobic bacterium, is among the pathogens capable of causing this condition.
