Description

Gluconapin (3-Butenyl glucosinolate) potassium is an orally active aliphatic glucosinolate and also a flavor modifier. Gluconapin potassium inhibits the elevation of plasma triglyceride levels in mice. Gluconapin potassium also exhibits certain antibacterial activity[1][2][3].

In Vitro

Gluconapin (4 mM) potassium exhibits weak inhibitory activity against porcine pancreatic lipase, inhibiting only 5.7% of the enzyme activity[2].
Gluconapin (0.15-3.0 μL/mL; 18 h) potassium dose-dependently inhibits the growth of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris race 4 strain HRI1279A in vitro[3].

In Vivo

Gluconapin (40-80 μmol/kg; oral administration; single dose immediately before corn oil loading) potassium can inhibit corn oil-induced postprandial increase in plasma triglycerides in male Slc:ddY mice[2].

Animal Model: Slc:ddY mice (6-week-old, male)[2]
Dosage: 40 μmol/kg (14.9 mg/kg); 80 μmol/kg (29.8 mg/kg)
Administration: p.o.; single dose (immediately before corn oil loading)
Result: Showed a non-statistically significant tendency to decrease plasma triglyceride levels at 4-8 hours after administration (40 μmol/kg).
Significantly suppressed the elevation of plasma triglyceride levels at 3-8 hours after administration, and reduced the 8-hour area under the plasma triglyceride concentration curve (AUC) to 61.5 ± 6.8% of the control value (p < 0.05 vs.control) (80 μmol/kg).
