Actithiazic acid
Actithiazic acid is a thiazolidinone antibiotic that targets biotin synthase. Actithiazic acid interferes with essential bacterial metabolism by inhibiting the final step of biotin synthesis (conversion of desthiobiotin to biotin, IC50 = 0.45 μM). Actithiazic acid can be used in studies related to mycobacterial infections.

Biological Activity
Actithiazic acid (0.45-3.9 μM; 20 min) inhibits the enzymatic conversion of desthiobiotin to biotin in resting cell suspensions of Escherichia coli K-12 strain ABD313-136, with an IC50 of 0.45 μM[1].
Actithiazic acid (1 μg/mL) induces derepression of the biotin A operon in Escherichia coli K-12 strain Y10-1, with the maximum enhancement of 7,8-diaminopelargonic acid aminotransferase and desthiobiotin synthetase activities observed at the concentration of 1 μg/mL[1].
Actithiazic acid promotes the excretion of biotin-like substances in growth cultures of Escherichia coli and various other microorganisms[1].
Combination of actithiazic acid (10-50 μg/mL; 18 h) with Cephalexin (HY-B0200) exerts moderate synergistic effects against *Escherichia coli* 9632 in nutrient broth[2].
