Meropenem-vaborbactam (Carbavance) is a Carbapenem Antibiotic and Boronic acid-based beta-lactamase inhibitor, is a fixed-dose combination product with potent in vitro activity against Enterobacteriaceae that are Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase producers. Meropenem-vaborbactam exhibits activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates , with an MIC50 of 0.5 μg/mL and an MIC90 of 8 μg/mL[1][2].

In Vitro

Meropenem-vaborbactam (≤1-≤2 μg/mL) potently inhibits Enterobacteriaceae isolates, with an MIC50 of ≤0.015 μg/mL and an MIC90 of 0.06 μg/mL; 99.1% and 99.3% of the isolates are inhibited at concentrations of ≤1 μg/mL and ≤2 μg/mL, respectively[1].
Meropenem-vaborbactam exhibits activity against isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with an MIC50 of 0.5 μg/mL and an MIC90 of 8 μg/mL[1].
Meropenem-vaborbactam exhibits potent in vitro activity against 991 KPC-producing Enterobacterales strains, with an MIC50 of 0.06 mg/L and an MIC90 of 1 mg/L[2].

In Vivo

Meropenem-vaborbactam (meropenem 2 g, vaborbactam 8 mg/L; 3-hour infusion; every 8 hours) achieves bacteriostasis at an fAUC:MIC ratio of 9 and a 1-log10 bacterial kill at an fAUC:MIC ratio of 38 in a neutropenic murine thigh model of KPC-producing Enterobacteriaceae infection[2].
