(Rac)-Medicarpin
(Rac)-Medicarpin (3-Hydroxy-9-methoxypterocarpan) is a pterocarpan isoflavonoid phytoalexin with antimicrobial activity and anti-tumor promoting activity. (Rac)-Medicarpin induces apoptosis in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. (Rac)-Medicarpin is also a defensive secondary metabolite produced in sword bean calli in response to exposure to spore suspensions of the non-pathogenic fungus Pithomyces chartarum or HgCl2.

Biological Activity
(Rac)-Medicarpin (72 h) exhibits no cytotoxicity against human epidermoid carcinoma cells (KB) and breast cancer cells (BC), with an IC50 > 100 μM for both cell lines[1].
(Rac)-Medicarpin (5 days) exhibits no cytotoxic activity against human small cell lung cancer (NCI-H 187) cells, with an IC50 > 100 μM[1].
(Rac)-Medicarpin is a product generated from calli of Canavalia gladiata after treatment with Pithomyces chartarum spores, and its accumulation is upregulated synchronously with phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and isoflavone-specific O-methyltransferase (OMT)[2].
MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.
