Flagellin from S. typhimurium is a potent TLR5 agonist. Flagellin from S. typhimurium activates immune cells and inhibits the activity of melanoma cells. Flagellin from S. typhimurium activates the NF-κB pathway dependent on the TLR5/MyD88/TRAF6 signaling axis in cells. Flagellin from S. typhimurium induces a proinflammatory response in the primary chicken hepatocyte-nonparenchymal cell co-culture system by promoting IL-8 production, inhibiting IL-10 production, and increasing the IFN-γ/IL-10 ratio. Flagellin from S. typhimurium can be used for research on melanoma and inflammatory diseases .

Licoflavone B is an orally active flavonoid, with IC50 values of 23.78 μM and 31.5 μM against SmATPase and SmADPase of Schistosoma mansoni, respectively. Licoflavone B selectively targets viral RdRp, inhibits viral replication, and reduces the expression levels of viral NP and PB2. Licoflavone B inhibits c-Myc expression and suppresses cancer cell proliferation. Licoflavone B disrupts the tegument of worms, reduces egg production, and induces the death of adult Schistosoma mansoni. Licoflavone B blocks the activation of the MAPK pathway, maintains colonic barrier integrity, inhibits colonic cell apoptosis, and reshapes the gut microbiota. Licoflavone B can be used in research related to influenza, multiple myeloma, schistosomiasis, and ulcerative colitis .

Iturin A-2 is a cyclic lipopeptide discovered in B. subtilis and exhibits inhibitory activity against the plant pathogenic fungus P. expansum (MIC = 8 µg/disk). Iturin A-2 is cytotoxic to MCF-7 and BT474 breast cancer cells, as well as HeLa cervical cancer cells, with IC50 values of 66.81, 95.04, and 77.5 µg/mL, respectively. In greenhouse studies, Iturin A-2 at concentrations of 100 and 300 mg/kg Iturin A-2 reduces the lesion area of southern corn leaf blight caused by B. maydis, and in field studies, concentrations of 300 and 500 mg/kg Iturin A-2 reduce the incidence of the disease. Iturin A-2 (12.5 µg/mL) inhibits cell division, but not nuclear division, in isolated fertilized starfish eggs .

EP-459 is a papain inhibitor (IC50=0.4 μg/mL) with no significant inhibitory activity against serine proteases such as trypsin, plasmin, thrombin, and urokinase. The effects of EP-459 are similar to those of E-64C (HY-100227), but differ from the functions of leupeptin and its analogs. EP-459 can serve as a titration reagent for mouse cathepsin L (precursor form/MEP) activity, covalently binding to the cysteine residue at its active site. EP-459 is also a Ca 2+-dependent active site-directed inhibitor that can inactivate chicken gizzard smooth muscle calpain II, and can be acetylated to generate Ac-Ep-459, which after radiolabeling can be used to prepare [ 3H]Ac-Ep-459 for calpain active site labeling .
