  3. Paramethasone

Paramethasone is an orally active long-acting glucocorticoid. Paramethasone directly inhibits testicular aromatase, thereby reducing the synthesis of estradiol. Paramethasone suppresses the basal and midcycle luteinizing hormone surges in female animals and blocks estrogen synthesis. Paramethasone also decreases circulating levels of dihydrotestosterone, androstenedione and estradiol in male animals. Paramethasone inhibits cartilage degeneration and alleviates joint pathological damage in osteoarthritis models. Paramethasone can be used in research related to osteoarthritis and endocrinology.

Description

Paramethasone is an orally active long-acting glucocorticoid. Paramethasone directly inhibits testicular aromatase, thereby reducing the synthesis of estradiol. Paramethasone suppresses the basal and midcycle luteinizing hormone surges in female animals and blocks estrogen synthesis. Paramethasone also decreases circulating levels of dihydrotestosterone, androstenedione and estradiol in male animals. Paramethasone inhibits cartilage degeneration and alleviates joint pathological damage in osteoarthritis models. Paramethasone can be used in research related to osteoarthritis and endocrinology[1][2].

In Vivo

Paramethasone (0.1 mg/kg; i.g.; 5 days per week; 5 weeks) significantly reduces the severity of surgically induced osteoarthritis in male New Zealand white rabbits[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: New Zealand white (male, ~4 kg, surgically induced model)[2]
Dosage: 0.1 mg/kg
Administration: p.o.; 5 days per week; 5 weeks
Result: Reduced global lesion scores for tibial and femoral cartilage significantly relative to controls.
Maintained cartilage architecture.
Partially prevented chondrocyte loss and stainable proteoglycan loss.
Markedly reduced the incidence and severity of osteophytes.
Reduced the size and number of chondrocyte clones.
Lowered the incidence and severity of ulcers and fissures.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
