    Description

Nisin is a bacteriocin produced by a group of Gram-positive bacteria that belongs to Lactococcus and Streptococcus species. Nisin has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity[1][2][3].

    In Vitro

    Nisin (100-800 μg/mL, 36 h) inhibits HNSCC cell ballooning[1].
    Nisin (500-7000 IU/mL, 24 h) induces free-living amoeba acanthamoeba cell cycle arrest[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

    Cell Viability Assay[2]

    Cell Line: A. castellanii trophozoites
    Concentration: 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 6000, 7000 IU/mL
    Incubation Time: 24, 72 h
Result: Inhibited amebic growth in a concentration-dependent manner at 24 h.

    Cell Cycle Analysis[2]

    Cell Line: A. castellanii trophozoites
    Concentration: 7000 IU/mL
    Incubation Time: 24 h
Result: Increased S phase to 13.3% and the percentage of G1 to 11.1%.
    In Vivo

Nisin (25 mg/kg, intraperitoneally injected for 7 days) reduces uterine inflammation in rats by regulating the concentration of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Rat uterine endometritis model[3]
    Dosage: 25 mg/kg
    Administration: i.p. for 7 days
Result: Decreased the endometritis-induced increase in uterine weight, restored endometrial architecture.
    Improved levels of B7-2, IFN-γ, IL-2 and IL-8.

    Help & FAQs
    • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
