Netilmicin exhibits antibacterial activity against aminoglycoside-susceptible gram-negative strains and aminoglycoside-resistant strain, such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, Serratia, and Enterobacter, with MIC of 0.125-8 μg/mL^[1].

In Vivo

Netilmicin (PD₅₀: <0.25->50 mg/kg; s.c.; once; 1 h after infection) shows in vivo antibacterial activity against many clinically important bacteria in CF1 mice, especially against strains resistant to Gentamicin (HY-A0276A) and Tobramycin (HY-B0441) that produce the adenylating enzyme ANT (2")^[1].
Netilmicin (i.v.: LD₅₀ of 40 mg/kg; i.p.: LD₅₀ of 125 mg/kg; s.c.: LD₅₀ of 175 mg/kg) has a higher acute toxicity than Gentamicin in mice^[1].
