Shearinine A ((+)-Shearinine A) is an orally active insecticidal indole alkaloid present in the sclerotioid ascostromata of the endophytic fungi Aspergillus fumigatus GCV-12 and Eupenicillium shearii. Shearinine A inhibits methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Shearinine A exhibits biological activity against corn earworms and dried fruit beetles. Shearinine A can be used in studies related to bacterial infections.

Description

Shearinine A ((+)-Shearinine A) is an orally active insecticidal indole alkaloid present in the sclerotioid ascostromata of the endophytic fungi Aspergillus fumigatus GCV-12 and Eupenicillium shearii. Shearinine A inhibits methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Shearinine A exhibits biological activity against corn earworms and dried fruit beetles. Shearinine A can be used in studies related to bacterial infections[1][2].

In Vitro

Shearinine A (compound 1) (25.0 μg/mL) inhibits the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) with an MIC of 25.0 μg/mL[1].
Shearinine A (compound 1) undergoes 15% autoxidation to its dioxoindole analog when stirred in methanol in air at room temperature for 72 hours[2].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Shearinine A (compound 1) (100 ppm; dietary; continuous feeding) causes an 89% reduction in weight gain of Helicoverpa zea larvae relative to controls[2].
Shearinine A (100 ppm; dietary; continuous feeding) causes a 69% reduction in feeding rate and a 48% reduction in weight gain of Carpophilus hemipterus larvae relative to controls[2].
Shearinine A (2 μg/insect; topical; single application) causes an 80% reduction in weight gain of first instar Helicoverpa zea larvae relative to controls[2].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
