Papain
Based on 15 publication(s) in Google Scholar
Papain is a cysteine protease of the peptidase C1 family. Papain enhances red cell agglutination by anti-D and anti-A, and increases red cell sensitivity to K cell-mediated lysis in ADCC assays. Papain can induce pulmonary emphysema. Papain can be used for the researches of Rh haemolytic disease of the newborn and pulmonary emphysema.

Biological Activity
Papain (5 U/mL; 15 min) pretreatment of O Rh-positive red cells enhances anti-D-mediated agglutination, while it slightly reduces anti-A-mediated agglutination of A Rh-negative red cells[2].
Papain (5 U/mL; 15 min) pretreatment of O Rh-positive red cells increases their sensitivity to lymphocyte-mediated lysis in anti-D-mediated ADCC assays at low antibody concentrations and a 15:1 effector-to-target ratio[2].
Papain (5 U/mL; 15 min) pretreatment of O Rh-positive target red cells enables significant PBMC-mediated lysis in anti-D-mediated ADCC assays at a 1:3:3 effector-to-target-to-competitor ratio[2].
Papain (5 U/mL; 15 min) pretreatment of A Rh-negative target red cells enables significant PBMC-mediated lysis in anti-A-mediated ADCC assays at a 1:3:3 effector-to-target-to-competitor ratio[2].
