Description

Homidium chloride is a potent antiparasitic agent exhibiting activity against Trypanosoma rhodesiense and Trypanosoma congolense. Homidium chloride can reduce parasitaemia in murine models of infection. Homidium chloride can be used for trypanosomiasis research[1][2].

In Vitro

Homidium chloride (0.001-10 μg/mL; 6 h) eliminates the infectivity of T. congolense in vitro in citrate-saline at ≥ 0.1 μg/mL, but not in horse serum[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Homidium (0.075-75.0 mg/kg; i.p., single dose) chloride exhibits antitrypanosomal activity against T. rhodesiense and T. congolense in the infectivity suppression mouse model, showing greater potency against T. rhodesiense[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Mice infected with T. rhodesiense and T. congolense[1]
Dosage: 75.0, 7.5, 0.75, 0.075 mg/kg
Administration: i.p.; single dose
Result: Exhibited antitrypanosomal activity against both T. rhodesiense and T. congolense.
Was approximately 12.5 times more active against T. congolense compared to T. rhodesiense.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
