RS-23597 (Compound 98) is a potent and selective 5-HT₄ receptor antagonist in the rat esophageal muscularis mucosa, with a pA₂ value of 7.8, and it exhibits only weak antagonistic activity against the 5-HT₃ receptor^[1].
RS-23597 binds to 5-HT₄ receptors in guinea pig striatal membranes with an apparent K_i value of 19 nM, and functions as a partial agonist^[2].
RS-23597 induces cAMP production in cells expressing human 5-HT₄ receptors^[2].
