Description

Cilastatin sodium (MK0791 sodium) is a reversible, competitive renal dehydropeptidase I inhibitor with an IC50 of 0.1 μM. Cilastatin sodium inhibits the bacterial metallob-lactamase enzyme CphA with an IC50 of 178 μM. Cilastatin sodium is an antibacterial adjunct[1][2][3].

IC50 & Target

β-lactam

In Vitro

Cilastatin (200 μg/mL; 24 hours; RPTECs) treatment protects against Vancomycin-induced proximal tubule apoptosis and increases cell viability, without compromising the antimicrobial effect of Vancomycin[2].

MCE has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Apoptosis Analysis[2]

Cell Line: Renal proximal tubular epithelial cells (RPTECs)
Concentration: 200 μg/mL
Incubation Time: 24 hours
Result: Significantly ameliorated Vancomycin-induced nuclear apoptosis.
In Vivo

In a mouse model (female mice, strain CD-1, 20 g) of systemic infection, Imipenem plus Cilastatin can protect mice from S. aureus, E. coli, and P. aeruginosa infection[3].

MCE has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
