Epiquinine shows weak antimalarial activity, with an IC₅₀ of 3471.0 nM against chloroquine-sensitive Plasmodium falciparum D-6 clone and an IC₅₀ of 1179.0 nM against chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum W-2 clone^[1].
Epiquinine (100 µM; 30 min) inhibits haem association with human erythrocyte ghost membranes, reducing membrane-bound haem levels to approximately 25% of the total haem in the assay^[2].
