Cystitis

Cystitis is an infection or inflammation of the bladder, typically presenting with localized symptoms such as suprapubic pain, dysuria, frequency, urgency, and occasionally hematuria, without systemic signs of infection. It is commonly caused by bacterial pathogens, particularly Escherichia coli, and is distinct from chronic conditions like interstitial cystitis. Uncomplicated cystitis is effectively treated with bladder-concentrating antibiotics such as nitrofurantoin and oral fosfomycin. However, no prevention strategies have been scientifically proven to be effective. Treatment during pregnancy is not covered in this context.
