Dieckol, is a naturally occurring phlorotannin found in some brown algal species. Dieckol has anti-bacterial, anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-aging, anti-diabetic, neuroprotective actions.

15-keto-Prostaglandin E2 (15-keto-PGE2) is an endogenous PGE₂ metabolite. 15-keto-Prostaglandin E2 inhibits STAT3 activation by binding to the Cys259 residue of STAT3. 15-keto-Prostaglandin E2 binds to and stabilizes EP2 and EP4 receptors. 15-keto-Prostaglandin E2 inhibits the growth and progression of breast cancer cells. 15-keto-Prostaglandin E2 activates PPAR-γ and promotes fungal growth. 15-keto-Prostaglandin E2 disrupts glomerular vascularization during zebrafish development and reduces the surface area of the glomerular filtration barrier.

Dictyvaric acid ((+)-Dictyvaric acid) is a novel sesquiterpene-substituted benzoic acid-type marine secondary metabolite isolated from the brown alga Dictyopteris divaricata. Dictyvaric acid’s congeneric analogs exhibit anti-tumor and antibacterial biological potential, and sulfide and sesquiterpene hydroquinone derivatives from congeneric algae can target EGFR and VEGFR kinases. Dictyvaric acid can be used in research related to cancers such as liver cancer and breast cancer.

2-O-(α-D-Glucopyranosyl) glycerol (55% in water) (Glucosylglycerol) is a glycerol glycoside and compatible solute. 2-O-(α-D-Glucopyranosyl) glycerol is isolable from the marine cyanobacterium Oscillatoria sp. 2-O-(α-D-Glucopyranosyl) glycerol (55% in water) acts as a salt stress protectant in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 ΔggpS cells. It enhances salt tolerance of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 ΔggpS cells and maintains cell division under salt stress.

D-Pentamannuronic acid, an alginate oligomer, is produced by marine brown algae and by a limited range of Gram negative bacteria. D-Pentamannuronic acid can be used for the research of pain and vascular dementia.

Verrucarin J (Muconomycin B) is a metabolite of the Myrothecium fungus family. Verrucarin J generates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induces apoptosis of cancer cell lines, such as A549, HCT 116 and SW-620 cells. Verrucarin J shows activities against Candida albicans and Mucor miehei. Verrucarin J inhibits arenavirus Junin (JUNV) yield with an IC₅₀ of 1.2 ng/mL.

Saringosterol is an orally active steroid found in Sargassum muticum. Saringosterol is a LXR agonist. Saringosterol can lower cholesterol levels and inhibit the mRNA and protein expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and CCAAT enhancer-binding protein α (C/EBPα). Saringosterol has anti-obesity, anti-atherosclerosis, anti-Mycobacterium tuberculosis and anti-depressant activities.

Caulerpin acts as an inhibitor of mitochondrial ETC complex I and acetylcholinesterase. Makisterone A 3-acetate is a steroid compound found in the Cyanotis arachnoidea.

Makisterone A 2-acetate is a steroid compound that can be isolated from the 75% ethanol extract of Cyanotis arachnoidea. Experimental tests show that Makisterone A 2-acetate has no anti-HSV-1 activity.
