Description

Cefoxitin, a β-lactam antibiotic, is a broad-spectrum, second-generation cephalosporin. Cefoxitin has a broad spectrum antibacterial activity which includes anaerobic as well as Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic bacteria[1][2].

IC50 & Target

β-lactam

In Vitro

Cefoxitin has good activity against Gram-positive bacteria. The MICs for several Gram-positive pathogens are in the range of 1-6 μg/mL[1].
Cefoxitin exhibits high efficacy killing B. burgdorferi at concentration of 1.25 µM/mL[3].

MCE has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Cefoxitin (20 mg/kg; i.p.; daily; for 5 days) effectively kills B. burgdorferi in C3H/HeN mice model[3].

MCE has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Four-week-old female C3H/HeN mice[3]
Dosage: 20 mg/kg
Administration: Intraperitoneal injection, daily, for five consecutive days
Result: Had shown high efficacy killing B. burgdorferi in vivo.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
