Herpetin is an active lignan. Herpetin acts as a bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell inducer that activates the SDF-1/CXCR4 axis and the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. Herpetin is applicable to research related to acute liver injury.

Herpetin (10-100 μM; 24-72 h) reduces the viability of mouse bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in a concentration-dependent manner within the range of 25-100 μM, while 10 μM Herpetin exerts no significant cytotoxic effect on mouse BMSCs[1].
Herpetin (10 μM; 7-21 d) promotes the differentiation of mouse bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) into hepatocyte-like cells[1].

Peaked AFP expression at 14 d then decreased, while ALB and CK18 expression increased continuously from 7 to 21 d.
