Sambutoxin

Sambutoxin is a fungal secondary metabolite with mitochondrial respiratory chain inhibitory activity and antitumor activity. Sambutoxin targets mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III, inhibits electron transfer between cytochrome b and c1, elevates intracellular ROS levels, and induces oxidative stress and DNA damage. Sambutoxin exhibits proliferation-inhibitory activity against MDA‑MB‑231, MCF‑7, A549, HeLa, and HT‑29, activates the ROS/JNK signaling axis, and induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Sambutoxin inhibits the growth of MDA‑MB‑231 xenograft tumors in vivo. Sambutoxin can be used for research on breast cancer and oxidative stress.
