  3. Stigmalactam

Stigmalactam is an aristolactam-type alkaloid extracted from Orophea enterocarpa with anticancer effects. Stigmalactam induces apoptosis via the mitochondrial pathway, with the activation of caspase-3/9, and a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential (MTP). Stigmalactam exhibits antioxidant activity by decreasing ROS production. Stigmalactam can be used for liver and breast cancer research.

Description

Stigmalactam is an aristolactam-type alkaloid extracted from Orophea enterocarpa with anticancer effects. Stigmalactam induces apoptosis via the mitochondrial pathway, with the activation of caspase-3/9, and a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential (MTP). Stigmalactam exhibits antioxidant activity by decreasing ROS production. Stigmalactam can be used for liver and breast cancer research[1].

In Vitro

Stigmalactam (24 h) dose-dependently inhibits HepG2, MDA-MB-231 and murine fibroblast NIH3T cells growth with IC50 values of 22.98, 33.23 and 24.44 μM, respectively[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
