1-Heptanol (n-Heptyl alcohol) is a linear primary fatty alcohol. 1-Heptanol selectively inhibits the activating phosphorylation of SAPK/JNK and reduces the phosphorylation level of IκB-α. 1-Heptanol increases plasma membrane fluidity, decreases membrane thermal stability, alters the coupling kinetics of STIM1-ORAI1, inhibits the production of ROS and LTC4, and induces the expression of HSP70. 1-Heptanol is used in the fragrance industry due to its pleasant odor.

1-Heptanol (2.5-5 mM; 15 min) is well tolerated by BMMCs, RBL-2H3 cells and human ROSA mast cells at the concentration of 2.5 mM, while the 5 mM concentration increases phosphatidylserine externalization in BMMCs and RBL-2H3 cells[1].
1-Heptanol (2.5-5 mM; 15 min pre-incubation, present during temperature ramp) enhances plasma membrane thermolability in human ROSA mast cells[1].
1-Heptanol (2.5 mM; 10 min) enhances the lateral mobility of FcεRI in RBL-2H3 cells[1].
1-Heptanol (2.5 mM; 15 min pre-incubation, present during activation) inhibits calcium mobilization by reducing extracellular Ca2+ influx in antigen-activated RBL-2H3 cells and thapsigargin-activated HEK293 cells[1].
1-Heptanol (2.5 mM; 10 min) enhances the lateral migration capacity of ORAI1 in HEK293 cells[1].

Result:Did not alter annexin V-APC-dependent phosphatidylserine staining, Hoechst 33258 intracellular presence, or double staining relative to untreated cells at 2.5 mM.
Increased the percentage of annexin V-positive BMMCs and RBL-2H3 cells, with a smaller increase in double-positive cells for BMMCs at 5 mM.
Showed no significant change in staining patterns for ROSA cells at 5 mM.
