Antibiotics

Filipin complex is a potent polyene macrolide antifungal antibiotic. Filipin complex inserts into membranes and sequester cholesterol into complexes and inhibits PRRSV entry. The Filipin complex consists of about 75.8% Filipin III (HY-N6718), 10.8% Filipin IV, 9.1% Filipin II, and 1.2% Filipin I (Ex/Em = 380/430 nm).

Vancomycin is an antibiotic for the treatment of bacterial infections.

Calcimycin (A-23187) is an antibiotic and a unique divalent cation ionophore (like calcium and magnesium). Calcimycin induces Ca²⁺-dependent cell death by increasing intracellular calcium concentration. Calcimycin inhibits the growth of Gram-positive bacteria and some fungi. Calcimycin also inhibits the activity of ATPase and uncouples oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) of mammalian cells. Calcimycin induces apoptosis and autophagy.

Monensin (Monensin A) sodium, an orally active antibiotic, is an ionophore that mediates Na⁺/H⁺ exchange. Monensin sodium is a potent Wnt signaling inhibitor. Monensin sodium causes a marked enlargement of the multivesicular bodies (MVBs) and regulates exosome secretion. Monensin sodium can be used for bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections research, and shows anticancer effects.

Nystatin is an orally active polyene antifungal antibiotic effective against yeast and mycoplasma. Nystatin increases the permeability of plasma membranes to small monovalent ions, including chloridion. Nystatin is a cholesterol-sequestering agent, partially prevents Oxaliplatin-induced lipid raft aggregation, DR4 and DR5 clustering, and thereby reduces apoptosis.

Chloramphenicol is an orally active, potent and broad-spectrum antibiotic. Chloramphenicol shows antibacterial activity. Chloramphenicol represses the oxygen-labile transcription factor and hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) in hypoxic A549 and H1299 cells. Chloramphenicol suppresses the mRNA levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and glucose transporter 1, eventually decreasing VEGF release. Chloramphenicol can be used for anaerobic infections and lung cancer research.

Gentamicin sulfate, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, inhibits the growth of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and to inhibit several strains of mycoplasma in tissue culture. Gentamicin sulfate inhibits DNase I with an IC₅₀ of 0.57 mM.

Meropenem (SM 7338) is a carbapenem antibiotic with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Meropenem has activity against susceptible and resistant N. gonorrhoeae (MIC value of 0.02-0.06 mg/mL), H. influenzae (MIC value of 0.03-0.12 mg/mL), and H. ducreyi (MIC value of 0.015-0.12 mg/mL).

Ionomycin calcium (SQ23377 calcium) is a potent, selective calcium ionophore and an antibiotic produced by Streptomyces conglobatus. Ionomycin calcium (SQ23377 calcium) is highly specific for divalent cations (Ca>Mg>Sr=Ba). Ionomycin (SQ23377) promotes apoptosis. Ionomycin calcium (SQ23377 calcium) also induces the activation of protein kinase C (PKC).

Ivermectin (MK-933) is a broad-spectrum anti-parasite agent. Ivermectin (MK-933) is a specific inhibitor of Impα/β1-mediated nuclear import and has potent antiviral activity towards both HIV-1 and dengue virus. It is a positive allosteric effector of P2X₄ and the α7 neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChRs). Ivermectin also inhibits bovine herpesvirus1 (BoHV-1) replication and inhibits BoHV-1 DNA polymerase nuclear import. Ivermectin is a candidate therapeutic against SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19.

Valinomycin is a potassium-specific ionophore, the valinomycin-K⁺ complex can be incorporated into biological bilayer membranes with the hydrophobic surface of valinomycin, destroys the normal K⁺ gradient across the membrane, and as a result kills the cells, incorporating into liposomes can significantly reduces the cytotoxicity and enhances the targeting effect. Valinomycin exhibits antibiotic, antifungal, antiviral, antitumor and insecticidal efficacy, thus can be used for relevant research.

Tetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with oral activity. Tetracycline exhibits activity against a wide range of bacteria including gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria, chlamydiae, mycoplasmas and rickettsiae. Tetracycline can be used for the research of infections.

Kanamycin (Kanamycin A) sulfate is an orally active antibacterial (gram-negative/positive bacteria) agent, inhibits translocation and causes misencoding by binding to the 70 S ribosomal subunit. Kanamycin sulfate shows good inhibitory activity to both M. tuberculosis (sensitive and drug-resistant ) and K. pneumonia, which can be used in studies of tuberculosis and pneumonia.

Colistin sulfate is a polypeptide antibiotic which inhibits gram-negative bacteria by binding to lipopolysaccharides and phospholipids in the outer cell membrane of gram-negative bacteria.

Filipin III is the major component of Filipin, a 28-membered ring pentaene macrolide antifungal antibiotic produced by S. filipinensis, S. avermitilis and S. miharaensis. Filipin interacts with membrane sterols causing the alteration of membrane structure.

Daptomycin is a lipopeptide antibiotic with rapid in vitro bactericidal activity against gram-positive organisms.

Imipenem monohydrate, a stable crystalline derivative of thienamycin, is an antibiotic and has the excellent activity against a broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.
